Ripple Church
This Copper Lantern located above the church main entrance porch has been in need of restoration for many years. I had offered my services previously but unfortunately the funds were just not available. However the proceeds from a very successful recent local fund raising event in the villages changed this. Together with the ongoing deterioration of the lantern to the point where it became a safety issue, with panes of glass hanging precariously above the heads of the congregation when entering, it meant in August of 2023 I was given the task of restoring the Lantern to a far safer and better condition.
A complete strip down was carried out removing all the glass and replacing nine missing copper tangs that hold the glass in place plus the re-soldering of many broken corner joints. The rusted lamp conduit from previous updates where it had been converted from a gas lamp to electric were carefully removed. In doing so I discovered a short length of lead clad mains wiring, dating back to around the 1930's . A new copper and brass support was designed together with a state of the art LED light assembly. This was built to resemble the old Gas mantles of years gone by and is more in keeping with the original era of what was a gas lantern.
Designed to look like a Twin Mantle configuration, it now runs from a low voltage 12 Volt DC Supply.
Low power consumption (20-Watt) is achieved using two 10-Watt LED's and gives out light equivalent to an old 100-150 watt tungsten light bulb, far better for the future of out planet !

Bought as a pile of bits from a restoration salvage yard, this Lantern underwent a total rebuild
It was painted with an etch primer and several coats of Satin black paint then supplied with new glass panels.
Note to pay tribute to its copper construction the Ogie ,Cap and Pinnacle were left in their natural polished state and protected with 3 coats of clear protective Lacquer.
It has been fitted with a Retro Electric Mantle, created to suit the era of gas lanterns.
Rutter Falls Restoration
This Copper Lantern located at Rutter Falls Watermill in Cumbria has undergone a total rebuild, with every joint being hand soldered in the tradition way. It has been fitted with a Retro Electric Mantle, created to suit the era of gas lanterns.
Designed to look like a Twin Mantle configuration, it features 3mm glass panels and runs from a 12 Volt DC 2 Amp Supply.
Low power consumption (20-Watt) is achieved using two 10-Watt LED's.
